Over Heiman Wertheim

Heiman Wertheim is hoogleraar medische microbiologie en afdelingshoofd medische microbiologie van het Radboudumc. Hij is voorzitter van het Radboud Centrum voor Infectieziekten (RCI). Heiman is voorzitter van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Medische Microbiologie (NVMM). Tevens is hij lid van de Beraadsgroep van de Gezondheidsraad. Tot 2015 was hij directeur van de Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Een van zijn belangrijkste interesses is antibioticaresistentie in zowel resource rijke als resource beperkte omgevingen en doet dit via een multidisciplinaire aanpak: gezondheidssystemen, beleidsontwikkeling, gedrag, surveillance, preventie, genomics en klinische trials. Momenteel is hij de hoofdonderzoeker van ABACUS project (ABACUS project – AntiBiotic ACcess and USe (abacus-project.org)).
