  • To gain a fundamental understanding of the mode-of-action of ablative technologies focusing on immunological and Tumor MicroEnvironment (TME) effects.  
  • To develop innovative immune modulatory therapies for in vivo programming of (innate) immune cells and fibroblasts for combination therapies. 
  • To develop (early) clinical feasibility and translational studies, guided by early health technology assessments to ensure responsible research and innovation.  
  • To train next generation professionals to bridge the medical physics of ablative interventions and immunotherapy.

Biological and molecular imaging in experimental radiotherapy

Jan Bussink's research group aims to 'reprogram' the metabolism of tumors, giving the immune system more 'grip' on tumor cells and making tumor cells more sensitive to radiotherapy.

Early health technology assessment

Janneke Grutters's research group develops and applies methodology to evaluate the (potential) value of innovations in healthcare, as of an early stage of development.

Experimental internal medicine

Mihai Netea's research group investigates the regulation of innate immune responses in health and disease, and based on that it designs and tests new approaches of immunotherapy in infections and immune-mediated diseases.
