There are biobank collections that collected whole blood and saliva before joining the Radboud Biobank to isolate DNA from them later. These samples were stored in the Radboud Biobank without DNA isolation having taken place. The Radboud Biobank’s policy is not to isolate DNA at the time of inclusion, given the chance that some the samples may never be used.
With the arrival of the new business model, the invoicing of DNA yet to be isolated will consist of the following components:
- Deployment of lab technicians for picking the whole blood/saliva samples
- Percentage of the processing costs of the whole blood/saliva samples (i.e. DNA isolation)
- New biobank collections: 50%
- Existing biobank collections: 2025 – 10% / 2026 – 30% / 2027 – 50%
- Issuing costs of the actual DNA samples (staggered rates; <10 / 10-99 / ≥100 samples)
- Additional costs from the department of Human Genetics depending on issue format samples
- Deployment of lab technicians for preparing shipment
- Possible material- and/or transport costs
